Jean-Luc Makiola.
I build design-led Android apps with Material 3 Expressive on top of open, self-hostable standards. This site collects my projects, writing, and notes.
How I build
I'd rather put a thoughtful interface on top of an open protocol than invent my own. Calendula reads and writes through Android's calendar provider; Agendula keeps its own task store and syncs it over plain CalDAV. Either way your data stays yours and stays portable. Together they make up the Floret family, small apps that share one design language. The code, translations, and builds around them run on infrastructure I host myself.
I also take on client work from Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany: apps, web and backend development, and moving companies off US cloud services. That side of the site is in German (zur deutschen Seite), but I work in English too: get in touch.
Selected work
All work →- ReleasedCalendula
A calendar for Android in true Material 3 Expressive. Every calendar already on your phone shows up, from Nextcloud to Google, and the app has no internet permission at all.
- ReleasedAgendula
A to-do list that stays yours. Sync it with Nextcloud or any CalDAV server, or keep it on your phone with no account at all. Material 3 Expressive, open source, no ads.
- In developmentClockula
An alarm clock built around one promise: it rings. Alarms, timers, a stopwatch and a world clock in one bold Material 3 Expressive app. No ads, no account, nothing sent anywhere.
- Design systemfloret-kit
The shared Material 3 Expressive design system and plumbing behind the Floret app family, so each app draws on shared parts instead of reinventing them.
Smaller experiments and utilities, most of them deliberately unfinished, live on my Gitea.
